Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt made the following challenge in 1853 to those who were not persuaded that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the true church:

"If anyone cannot convince you by reason nor by the word of God, that your religion is wrong,
we will not persecute you, but will sustain you in the privileges, guaranteed in the great Charter of
American Liberty: we ask from you the same generosity protect us in the exercise of our religious
rights convince us of our errors in doctrine, if we have any, by reason, by logical arguments, or by
the word of God, and we will be ever grateful for the information, and you will ever have the pleasing
reflection that you have been instruments in the hands of God of redeeming your fellow beings from
the darkness which you may see enveloping their minds." (Orson Pratt, The Seer, pp.15-16)

George A. Smith, first Counselor to Brigham Young said:

"If a faith will not bear to be investigated; if its preachers and professors are afraid to have it examined,
their foundation must be very week." (Journal of Discourses 14:216)

So with the go ahead of investigating Mormonism given from well known Mormons and documents, let's do just that.

If I, as a Christian, say to a Mormon "I'm Mormon but I do not believe Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. I don't believe that God was once a man or that men become gods. I don't believe the Mormon Church is the only true church or that we need human prophets to guide the church. I don't believe the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and I don't believe temples are necessary or that couples can be married for eternity."  A Mormon would deny I was a true Mormon because I as a Christian claiming to be Mormon deny the very doctrines that make the Mormons what they are. At the same time, Mormons claiming to be Christian deny the very doctrines that make Christians what they are. So Mormonism is definitely not Christian, If it were, you'd be able to find a positive book on the subject of Mormonism in a Christian Book Store. Ed Decker, a former Mormon says that Mormonism is "one of today's most seductive non-Christian religions."

Through the ads, commercials and door to door work, claiming to be "family-oriented", they only show what the Mormon Church wants us to see: a caring, sensitive church with Christ-centered families, all working together to further Christ's work on earth. Though some is true, many Mormons believe they are serving Christ, most Mormons are victims of a deception as clever as anything thrown at the world since the days of Adam. Even though they may be victims, they do great harm to the true cause of Christ. The Mormons expect to spend over 100 million dollars in annual advertising costs in the 1990's to get multiple messages of their faith into every North American home, too bad the message is not of true Christian substance.  So what is really behind the image they portray and want you to see?

(If your faith can withstand the statements made above by Orson Pratt and George A. Smith these please continue.)

Mormonism vs. Christianity

The Mormon Church refers to itself as a Christian sect, a separate doctrinal group within a larger group. But Mormonism is not a separate group within the Christian body. It teaches a different God, a different Jesus, and a different heaven and hell. It places the validity of the Bible in serious doubt and proclaims new and different "Holy Scripture." Its eternal doctrines or "gospel" and master plan of salvation are directed by the god of this earth through a living "Prophet, Seer, and Revelator" to whom the members must demonstrate total obedience.

Mormonism is a cult because it humanizes God, deifies man, minimizes sin, and ostracizes the Scriptures. Mormonism uses as its main theme Old Testament Law and priesthood. It also has a form of the New Testament Christ -- but he is different in function and power and purpose than the biblical Lord Jesus.

Mormons use the same terms Christians use, but with different definitions. Therein lies the trap. The unwary person hears of the joys of the gospel, the love of Christ, and God's desires for him or her. Then the person steps into the realm of the subtle "doublethink," falling prey to a missionary teaching plan created by some of the cleverest salespeople in the world. Unfortunately, Mormonism sits just a tiny but critical millimeter below the surface of Christianity, and its outward appearances encompass the American ideal. This makes it hard to believe Mormon theology can be so wrong and jeopardize a person's eternity with the biblical Jesus.

What you can't see is that under the surface, wolves lurk! "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves" (Matthew 7:15). You need to strip back the layer of wool from the "sheep" they claim to be and reveal the fur they were cloaked in when they swore eternal allegiance to the Holy Priesthood and the ravening wolf/false prophet, Joseph Smith.

No matter how misinformed and misled they are by their "prophet", the majority of the Mormon people believe with all their hearts and souls they are serving the true God and you are the lost one. They believe they are doing God's will in reaching out to you.  God's heart went out to us in love and concern when we were yet sinners. He is also reaching out in love for his children lost in the doctrinal quicksand of Mormonism.
